Please review this information in detail prior to arriving at your retreat to help you have the most comfortable and successful retreat possible.
The home of The Soul Institute Inc. is a 20-acre forest located in the most southern part of the beautiful Muskoka region. The property features a main indoor communal area that includes our reception, a lounge, yoga studio, boutique, washrooms, and change rooms. This is where most retreats will begin and end.
In addition, we are known for our beautiful outdoor locations including a screened-in yoga pavillion nestled in the woods that gives you a close connection with nature without the bugs! We also have four beautiful glamping cabins situated among the trees around this outdoor studio.
There are also a few small walking trails through the property that may be accessible for personal or group use depending on weather and trail conditions.
The property and space is designed to create an intimate and relaxed retreat, so most of our retreats are limited to 14 overnight guests and 16 total retreat participants during the day.
We serve a variety of healthy and tasty homemade food. If you have special dietary needs, we encourage you to bring any supplemental items you may need. All meals are vegetarian but most retreats have options for vegan and gluten-free diets.
There is a water, tea and coffee station in the lounge and is available 24 hours a day. Drinks may be brought to bedrooms, but cups and glasses should be returned to the lounge after use. We have a small housekeeping staff, so your assistance is most appreciated.
Should you require additional food or beverages, please bring a cooler along with you to store them safely in your cabins.
Food Sensitivity Information
The Soul Institute Inc. serves vegetarian meals. As much as possible, we select local and organic foods that provide a well-rounded and nutritious meal. All meals are vegetarian, but we can offer vegan and gluten-free options.
Because we are a retreat center, we are set up to provide meals to groups, not to individuals. Menus are based on what is in season and in the market. Because of this, we are not able to accommodate individual needs. But, because there are many people with food restrictions, we invite guests to bring what they think they will need to supplement their diet. We do not have a stove, blender, or refrigerator for guests. Please bring a cooler along or a small camp stove if required.
Even on a limited diet, most people find they can eat much of what is offered on the menu, supplemented with what individuals bring. At the end of the meals (after everyone has been served), a retreatant can go back and take more of whatever agrees with them to add to the next meal.
There are 5 glamping cabins available. Each cabin includes a wood stove, single beds with mattress, sheets, pillows, duvet cover, and blanket. Overhead lighting is provided along with a small portable lantern that can be used during travels. There is one USB charger in each room to charge phones and small portable electronics. Each glamping cabin also features a beautiful deck with muskoka chairs, fire pit, and a nearby picnic table to relax and commune with nature.
All cabins are shared accommodation (2 people in intimate cabins, 3-4 people in deluxe cabins) unless guests purchase a single supplement.
The cabins do NOT have electrical outlets (for hairdryers, etc) nor private washrooms. However, guests are welcome to use electrical outlets and washroom/shower facilities in the main indoor studio.
There is no WIFI available onsite. However, we do have ample cell phone reception in the area if you wish to connect through your data plan.
Guests are encouraged to use their retreats as an opportunity to get away from their busy lives, so electronics in the cabins have been kept to a minimum to allow for a greater connection with nature.
There is a communal bathroom with modern finishes in the main indoor yoga studio that features two private showers, washrooms, change rooms, vanities, and storage for toiletries. There is also a single washroom and shower outside during summer months.
A fresh supply of clean towels will be available within the bathrooms during your stay.
There is one lounge available in the main building that includes several comfortable chairs and a water, tea, and coffee station. The lounge is available 24/7 for your use. However, guests are also welcome to lounge in the outdoor studio or at one of the picnic tables available on the property during their stay.
Each glamping cabin is also equipped with a deck and two muskoka chairs for additional lounging opportunities.

If you wish to book spa services, we recommend you do so as early as possible to avoid disappointment as they book up quickly during summer months. You may contact them directly to book or learn more about their services by visiting https://www.spamuskoka.com/mobile-treatments
NOTE: If booking Spa Muskoka, services must be held in your cabin. There is NO electrical outlets in your cabin so you may NOT book a hot stone massage or any other treatments requiring electricity.
Advance booking is highly recommend with all spa services in the area as they tend to book up quickly for weekend spots during summer months.
There are no phones in glamping cabins. You can give out our main telephone number to those who may need to reach you: 705-689-8950. If you get an emergency message, we will find you and deliver it promptly. Cell phone service is usually pretty strong in our buildings and outdoor locations.
There is no smoking permitted on the grounds at any time.
Dress is relaxed and informal. Guests should bring clothes and shoes that are comfortable and modest. Shorts, yoga/jogging pants and tee shirts are fine. Be sure to bring clothes that are appropriate for hiking so you can enjoy the trails.
We encourage all overnight guests to also bring a pair of shower sandals and extra warm clothes for sleeping if you tend to be cool in the evenings. It is also wise to bring a pair of rubber boots and rain gear if the weather forecast is predicting rain during your stay.
Unfortunately we cannot accommodate pets at this time.
Please note that The Soul Institute Inc. is NOT a scent-free location. We regularly use essential oils and incense to enhance our practices and activities and cannot guarantee that this will be a scent-free environment. We do however, make every effort to use scents that are natural and pure.
All retreat deposits and payments are non-refundable. Should be unable to attend the retreat, your reservation may be transferred into someone else’s name. However, it is your responsibility to find a replacement for your spot.
Retreats usually begin with registration on opening day from 4pm to 6pm. We ask that guests arrive between those times to check in, get their room and get oriented.
Retreats generally end by 11am on closing day. We ask that guests check out of their rooms by 11am. Any unclaimed personal belongings left behind will be held for 1 week. Please call within a week’s time to let us know you’ve lost a personal belonging. If we haven’t heard from any guests within a week to claim a lost item, that item will be donated to charity.
